A Rochester native, this year marks this eclectic style maven’s 20th year in Sarasota. This graceful and lovely fashionista shares the style secrets behind her fierce flair, her favorite blogger and her biggest style tip for women.

WHO:  Heather Dunhill, 45, Sarasota Magazine fashion editor and style blogger for HeatherDunhill.com.

WHAT I DO:  I follow worldwide Fashion Weeks from New York to Berlin to track and translate style and fashion trends for both my monthly print columns and blogs. And I have the fun privilege of interviewing fashion icons, style-setters and emerging designers like Brett Heyman of Edie Parker, Iris Apfel and Betsey Johnson.

MY STYLE: Sharp feminine design with an unexpected element – whether it’s an eye-catching embellishment or a bold hue…anything but an ordinary silhouette. At the moment, I especially love the volume trend that’s gaining massive fashion ground, from statement sleeves to oversized culottes.

HOW HAS YOUR STYLE EVOLVED? I took a major arc from a basic, edgy Helmut Lang style in minimalist black, white and grey to embracing color and game-changing prints. 

FAVORITE DESIGNERS: I love mixing brands like Être Cécile, MSGM, Marni, Proenza Schouler, Monse, Lizzie Fortunato and Tome.

MY GO-TO ITEMS: For every day, it’s my J.Crew jean jacket, wide-leg striped pants from Zara, paint-splattered Converse and the perfect grey, V-neck tee by Current Elliot. 

FAVORITE ITEM I OWN: Barring anything sentimental, I have a pair of vintage Elsa Schiaparelli earrings that I love. They’re a fave for a couple reasons – not only is Schiaparelli a fashion hero, but whenever I look at them I always find myself thinking they’ve attended some pretty fabulous parties in their time.

WHAT I LIKE WRITING ABOUT MOST: Interviews with fashion designers. I love a conversation with a creative mind.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TREND RIGHT NOW: Massive earrings!

WHOSE STYLE DO YOU LOVE?  Leandra Medine from Man Repeller. I love her style, and I would love to dress just like her. Another one is Caroline deMaigret, a French model/muse and author that has an amazing fashion sense.

MY ONE TIP FOR WOMEN:  The most stylish tip I can share is a quote by the indomitable, and the original phenomenal woman, Maya Angelou: “Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women."

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN: I am crazy about pumps and jeans are a staple. I would dress up jeans with a dressy top, fun heels and beautiful statement earrings.

Her signature haircut is from Terry McKee at Nuovo Salon.
