Hearty Fall Eating

By Kay Kipling November 2, 2010

Ah, November, a time for turkey and cranberries and pumpkin anything. I love November and the fall flavors. It also gives me an excuse to eat heartier meals. Nothing beats the Kobe meatloaf at Libby’s, and you will see I picked the melt-in-your-mouth comfort food with an egg as the “Hot Dish” this month in the magazine. It’s not just the meatloaf; my praise runs the gambit of the Asian roasted chicken to the fish tacos to the Kobe hot dog and truffle fries. A few weeks ago I ate at Libby’s four days in a row for various business meetings/lunches. Everyone hit the spot, since the menu is so large. I can eat a burger on one day and an Asian chopped chicken salad the next. And wait until you try a la carte Sunday brunch—eggs benedicto is supreme.

Apparently the LBKC’s Wine and Stone Crab Fest is not for the general public. My apologies. I was mailed a brochure and nowhere did it say it was private. So I’m sorry for all those lined up with their mustard sauce.

Very happy-happy to Sean Murphy and Susan Timmins on their 25th anniversary of the Beach Bistro Nov. 1—made all the sweeter with the upcoming James Beard Dinner in NYC on Dec. 2. Leave it to this culinary couple to make a special trip for those passionate about the Bistro (see www.beachbistro.com).

By the way, next time you are in South Tampa, check out Season’s 52, a delicious concept of lower fat foods in a unique setting. I usually head to P.F. Chang’s (oh, longing for one in Sarasota), but now have a delicious option just across the lot.

I loved the steak and bleu flatbread at Seasons 52.
