Sarasota's Kress Building Was Built to Boost the Economy During the Depression
It’s one of the last remaining Art Deco landmarks in our area.
Sarasota’s spectacular S. H. Kress & Co. building was built on Main Street in 1932 by general contractor G.A. Miller to boost the local economy during the Great Depression. It’s one of the last remaining Art Deco landmarks in our area. Look up and you can see beautiful ornamental glazed terra cotta and buff tile designs, as well as the Kress insignia embellishing the facade.
