Six Shumaker Loop & Kendrick LLP attorneys volunteered their time last Saturday to support the Miracle League of Manasota, a nonprofit that allows children with disabilities to enjoy the thrill of playing baseball. The Leadership Shumaker team provided food and worked at the breakfast table during the Miracle League’s Saturday morning games at Sarasota’s Longwood Park. Leadership Shumaker is a charitable program involving all the associate attorneys in the firm’s Sarasota office that raises money and organizes volunteer shifts for worthy causes.

 


 

 

The Education Foundation has secured $100,000 in matching funds for the kickoff of its Classroom Grant Campaign for the 2015-2016 school year. The campaign launches at 10:30 a.m. today when LeVar Burton of Reading Rainbow visits Emma E. Booker Elementary School to host a Reading Rainbow assembly. The matching grant is made possible through Achieva Credit Union, the Education Foundation board of directors and the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations. Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County received a $15,000 grant from the Jerome & Mildred Paddock Foundation to provide summer memberships to disadvantaged youth. The memberships will ensure the children will participate in educational and recreational summer activities under positive adult influence and supervision. BGCSC also received a $20,000 grant from Publix Super Market Charities to support its Project Learn program. Project Learn reinforces the academic enrichment and school engagement of students during the time they spend at one of the organizations’ four clubs spanning Sarasota to North Port.

 

 


 

Goodwill Manasota recently received a donated Safavieh Samarkand rug valued at approximately $8,000. The organization will auction the item through eBay’s charitable site from May 2-9, during the organization’s annual observance of “Goodwill Industries Week.” Details and instructions for bidding will be available at experiencegoodwill.org after the auction begins tomorrow May 2. Goodwill's website will display the appraisal documentation and photos of the rug, as well as the link to bid on the item. The rug measures 12’ x 15’ and originates from China. The proceeds from the sale will support Goodwill’s mission of changing lives through the power of work.
