Sarasota Magazine won three second-place awards in this year's Sunshine State Awards contest, organized by the Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The magazine was recognized for public service reporting for Daniel DeWitt's 2017 feature on citrus greening, "Signs of Life," while creative director Gigi Ortwein was recognized for the magazine's inside design. The magazine's December 2017 issue was named the second-best single issue of any magazine in the state during the contest period.
