Over the weekend, Sarasota was home to yet another fun, pumpkin-related activity, as pumpkin laser-engraving brought carving to a new, futuristic level.

At the Suncoast Science Center’s Faulhaber Fab Lab on Saturday, attendees learned the ins and outs of the activity, guided by student volunteers who assisted with the CorelDraw software used to engrave the pumpkins, helped kids find an image for their pumpkins and emphasized the importance of choosing a “high-contrast design” as their image.

Last year, the event was such a hit that the team at Fab Lab decided they would stick with their winning formula—getting families to explore their creativity.

“We hope attendees get excited about the unique ways technology is used at the Fab Lab and are inspired to explore their curiosity and ideas,” says Jenn Sams, the marketing and communications director of the Faulhaber Fab Lab. “The equipment may seem intimidating at first, but we have built an amazing community of innovators who are always happy to share their learnings. A laser-engraved pumpkin is only the beginning of what you can create here."

Indeed, The Faulhaber Fab lab will be announcing similar Thanksgiving- and holiday-themed workshops in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
