Sarasota's Veterans Day Parade Begins at 10 on Thursday

The parade will be followed by a ceremony at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park.

Sarasota's annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, at the intersection of Osprey Avenue and Main Street. The parade will travel along Main Street to the west, and will end at Gulfstream Avenue, with a ceremony at nearby Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at 11 a.m.

This year's ceremony will feature guest speaker Army Chief Warrant Officer Wes Rinehart, a 2003 Sarasota Military Academy graduate who served in Afghanistan. The parade will include color guards, antique military vehicles, students, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other veterans groups, community organizations and local dignitaries.

In Venice, a Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Patriots Park, 800 Venetia Bay Blvd., Venice. That event will include a number of veterans' organizations and speakers.
