In response to recent mass shootings—including one at Tops Friendly Markets in Buffalo, New York, which left 10 Black people dead, and Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, which left 19 students and two teachers dead, the Sarasota chapters of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Leaders Rights Organization and Moms Demand Action organized a rally and vigil at Five Points Park in downtown Sarasota. Members of the community, including students and teachers, spoke to a crowd of approximately 400 people. The names of the victims of recent shootings were also read aloud.
