Sarasota and Manatee Counties Will Shut Off Water to Barrier Islands Ahead of Hurricane Ian

In both counties, water will be shut off between 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 27.

In anticipation of potential impacts from Hurricane Ian, Sarasota County Utilities will shut off water service to residents and businesses located on Lido Key, Siesta Key, Casey Key and the island of Venice on Tuesday, Sept. 27. After water service ends, county utilities customers will not have water for use. Residents and businesses are encouraged plan accordingly. Sarasota County is currently calling for evacuation orders for those in Level A.

In Manatee County, water will also be shut off on Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key on Tuesday. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for those in Level A and voluntary evacuation orders for those in Level B. The goal of the shutoffs is to protect local water infrastructure during the storm.

Manatee County shelters will open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Water will be shut off to the islands between 5-7 p.m. that night. In Sarasota County, shelters will open at noon on Tuesday. Water will be shut off to Siesta Key and Casey Key between 5-7 p.m. that night.
