Nelle Miller Named Interim Executive Director at UnidosNow

Plus, Victoria Thames takes over at Manatee Community Foundation and Bank of America names two local Student Leaders.

UnidosNow’s board of directors recently announced the appointment of Nelle Miller to the position of interim executive director as the organization searches for a permanent executive director at the national level. 

The Manatee Community Foundation has named Veronica Thames its new executive director. Thames was previously senior vice-president and chief operating officer of Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

Erline Constant, a senior at State College of Florida Collegiate School, and Simon Rodriguez, a recent graduate of Manatee High School, have been selected as Bank of America Student Leaders. Selection for this paid internship program is due to the work each of them have done for their community. As Student Leaders, they will work closely with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County and gain exposure to workforce skills, leadership, and civic engagement. In a few weeks, the students will travel to Washington D.C. for a week-long, national leadership summit as part of the program. 

Ringling College of Art and Design Illustration alumnus Wendell Minor (’66) will be inducted into the prestigious Society of Illustrators’ Hall of Fame in September.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has appointed new members and elected officers to its 2023-2024 board of directors. Marilyn Thompson has been elected as chair and Paul Hudson will serve as vice-chair. Continuing service in their roles of treasurer and secretary, respectively, will be Andrew Stultz and Felice Schulaner. Joining the board for three-year terms are Dr. Karen Hamad, David Joyner, Patricia Mathews and Terri Vitale.

Premier Sotheby’s International Realty has named Terrence Cook as a new member of its leadership team. Cook will oversee all Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch office locations alongside current managing broker Craig Cerreta. 

Sigal Brier has been named the new rabbi of Congregation Kol HaNeshama in Sarasota. She succeeds interim rabbi Carl Astor and rabbi emerita Jennifer Singer, the congregation’s first full-time rabbi.

Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors has added new designers and architects to its team: Lidiya Angelova, project designer; Paige BeBout, project designer; Michael Euker, project manager; Matthew Ingram, job captain; Connor Joyce, project designer; Anastasya Strauss, interior designer; Warren Teague, project designer; and Daniel Toro, project designer. 

 The City of North Port has announced that Stacy Aloisio will take the reins as the new emergency manager for the city, effective Aug. 5, 2023.

The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation has announced the appointment of Steve Barancik and Ben Hanan to its board of directors. 

The board of directors of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation recently elected David Sessions as chair and Anand Pallegar as vice-chair for a one-year term as officers, effective July 1, 2023. The board also welcomed three new board members—Keith G. Johnson, Frank Martucci and Pete Petersen—for a three-year term beginning March 1, 2023.

The Hermitage Artist Retreat recently announced that Carole Crosby has been elected president of the Hermitage board of trustees. The Hermitage also this year welcomed Terry Brackett as a new member of its board. 

The board of directors of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation has elected Laura Spencer as the private foundation's newest board member.

Aviva Senior Living, a not-for-profit senior rental residential community located in The Meadows, has welcomed Patrick Mulva and Meredith Dropkin to its board of trustees. 

 Halfacre Construction Company recently welcomed six new hires: Chuck Evans, Scott Cornett, Jeremy Baker, Gaby Garcon, Sheila Castillo and Linda Collier.
