Tour a Colorful Harbor Acres Home Designed by Pamela Hughes of Hughes Design Associates

The interior designer chose bright, bold colors and custom finishes for this bayfront redo.

Interior designer Pamela Hughes chose bright tropicalcolors--aqua, purple, pink, yellow, orange. She opened up the view of Sarasota Bay from the front door further by painting all the walls and ceiling white and installing clear glass railings around the pool. The centerpiece of the living room is The Orb, an aluminum sculpture that contracts to 18 inches and expands to a full six feet.

The owners' contemporary art collection was a "fabulous" jumping-off point for Hughes' design plan, says the interior designer. Hughes chose aqua chairs to reference the sea and sky.

In the entryway, the mirror is set in an actual jet engine casing. Hughes chose a vivid fuschia rug and custom-designed the credenza.

Hughes opened up the kitchen and dining room to the living room and lightened up the bar by replacing black marble countertops with white quartz.

Rick Oswald of Oz Planning created the fireplace that separates the living and dining rooms; the column is made of steel mesh.

In the dining room, Hughes chose a glass-topped table and designed the orange plexiglass light fixture to complement the glass-walled wine cellar.

The master bedroom is an oasis of calm sea colors.

The original master bath was a warren of tiny rooms; Hughes opened it up and used white Calacutta marble for a spa effect.
