Once upon a time, Texas was the only state with more cattle than Florida—and Florida still ranks No. 9 in the country as far as number of cattle. So it makes sense that every year, cowboys and cowgirls descend on nearby Arcadia to display their skills, athleticism and compete for prize money.  Now in its 98th year, the Arcadia Rodeo is the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi, with events including mutton busting, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding and bull riding.

Equine performance provided some non-competitive entertainment.

Bullriding is a dangerous rodeo sport that requires a rider to stay mounted for 8 seconds on a bucking bull that weighs well more than 1,000 pounds.
